Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility between programme and partner countries

Erasmus+ mobility grant for 3 Staff members from Escola Superior de Saúde – Politécnico do Porto, Portugal (ESS-PPorto) to University of East Sarajevo (UES), Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Polytechnic Institute of Porto is coordinating the project Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (action Erasmus+ KA107 Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility between programme and partner countries) with reference 2019-1-PT01-KA107-060459 for cooperation with several countries.

Under the scope of this cooperation it is planned a mobility of 3 Staff members from ESS-PPORTO to UES, with experience in the cooperation.

There is a solid connection between UES and IPP, namely involving the Speech Therapy area. The most relevant project joining ESS-PPorto and UES is ABC - Assisting Better Communication.  This former project aimed to enhance  the profession of  Speech and  Language Therapy  in participating countries through quality courses and programs offered at different levels of professional education. Nearly 90% of children having risk of disabilities need language and speech therapy. Language and speech therapy is necessary for children and adults having problems of swallowing and problems of oral sensory. Those who suffer from difficulties of communication and speech - include people with a wide range of disorders of the general communication and speech autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other chronic conditions. SL therapy is important for children having articulation and speech problems, crucial for persons with hearing impairment etc. Thus, the language and speech therapy is a very important specialization, which assists people with special communicational needs. During last 10 years the need for Speech and Language Therapy services has become more and more evident due to the progressive awareness of communication, speech and language related disabilities both in children and adults. In most cases these clients are being served by persons with no qualification in Speech and Language Therapy – they are from different related disciplines, such as linguistics, education and/or psychology, which cannot assure the quality of the speech and language therapy services. Development of modern European standards-based specialty in Communication, Language and Speech Therapy will respond to the increased needs of quality services in the participating countries (Israel, Georgia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina).

The main purpose of this visit under the scope of ICM is to explore to identify country/institution needs, not only in Speech Therapy but also in other health related areas; analyze undergraduate and master degrees curricula characteristics; determine strong pedagogical/research areas and experiences held in each institution; develop a proposal for future projects (i.e. teaching joint courses, development of joint research projects, or other); identify and explore other health related areas where international cooperation (including students’ mobility) will be developed.
