Speech-Language Therapy is an autonomous profession that addresses disorders of human communication, swallowing, and related functions. Speech-language therapists can collaborate with educational teams for children and young people, rehabilitation teams for children and/or adults, and various other professional settings, facing complex challenges throughout their careers. The Master’s Program in Speech-Language Therapy aims to meet the demand for deeper, more reflective knowledge expressed by speech therapists seeking professional and academic growth.
This Master’s Degree has been offered at E2S-P.Porto since 2017 and was updated in 2024/25 to address emerging professional challenges. It now incorporates a B-Learning pedagogical model that is more flexible and tailored to the needs of working students. The program spans two years: the first year focuses on coursework, while the second is dedicated to applied research.
The curriculum emphasizes the development of reflective, evidence-based professional practices, family-centered approaches, and collaborative methods, aligning with the paradigms advocated by the WHO and leading national and international scientific and professional associations. The program also includes innovative topics such as Project Management, and Multimedia and Telepractice.
A notable feature of this Master’s Degree is its flexible component (20 ECTS), allowing for three optional specialty courses selected annually based on the preferences and profiles of each cohort. Students may also choose electives from other postgraduate programs offered at E2S.
In the second year (60 ECTS), students focus entirely on developing and defending their dissertation. For those looking to begin or redirect their professional practice, internship and project report options are also available. Throughout the year, students receive guidance, participate in support classes, and present their research progress periodically.
Research is conducted within the framework of E2S-defined research lines, fostering integration with associated research centers, collaboration with foreign universities, and engagement with other research groups. Whenever possible, international mobility is encouraged to broaden students' experiences and diversify their professional skills.
