This is an innovative doctoral program that integrates the areas of Health and Environment with a focus on Sustainability, training highly qualified researchers and professionals to respond to the contemporary challenges of global health and environmental change. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda and the Priority Domains of the Smart Specialization Strategy of the Northern Region, this doctorate promotes an interdisciplinary approach, focused on the production of knowledge and solutions with scientific, social, and economic impact.

Throughout the course, students develop skills to:

- Integrate knowledge of health and environment in addressing complex issues resulting from the interaction between natural, social, and health systems, with a focus on sustainability;

- Design, develop, and adapt innovative practices, procedures, compounds, products, and technologies applied to health and the environment, minimizing environmental impact;

- Identify and investigate emerging problems related to human health, interaction with the environment, and sustainability, proposing innovative solutions and practices;

- To intervene in the determinants of health, promoting effective strategies/actions to improve quality of life and meet sustainability goals;

- To develop innovative approaches in health monitoring in situations of exposure to environmental factors;

- To conduct high-level research to promote the health and well-being of communities, adopting ecological options;

- To explore resources sustainably for applications in human and environmental health.

This doctoral program prepares professionals capable of generating high-quality scientific knowledge, communicating their results effectively, and contributing to innovation and the construction of healthier, more resilient, and sustainable societies.

- Holders of a master’s degree or legal equivalent in areas of health or the environment, such as Hygiene and Safety in Organizations, Clinical Analysis and Public Health, Pharmacy, Biochemistry in Health, Management of Organizations (branch of Management of Health Units), Laboratory Techniques in Biopathology, European Master’s degree in medical technology and business, and related areas; - Holders of a bachelor’s degree in the areas of health or the environment, such as Medicinal Biotechnology, Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Pharmacy, Clinical Physiology, Environmental Health, Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy, and related areas, who have a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum recognized as attesting to their ability to complete this cycle of studies by the E2S Technical-Scientific Council (TSC); - Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum recognized as attesting to their ability to complete this cycle of studies by the E2S-P.Porto TSC.
